John Lewis are cutting prices in half for thousands of items. We’ve seen TVs, washing machines, exercise equipment, beds, bedding, cooking pots and loads of other items on offer.
There are three tiers of cuts: 30% off, 50% off and 70% off.
The 70% off range is dominated by women’s clothing, but also includes some household stuff such as bedding and a lamp.
The 50% off range includes clothing again, but also watches, shoes, handbags and Xbox games.
The 30% off range is broader still and covers virtually every department in the store.

Amazon have slashed prices for thousands of items. You’re not going to get a Kindle for anything less that the retail price, but lots of other gadgets, books, DVDs etc. are discounted by varying amounts. We have seen digital cameras at half price (Samsung ST60), FIFA11 for various formats under £23, 50% off of a load of bestselling books, and up to 70% off DVD and Blu Ray.

With the shops open again, the Boxing Day Sales are kicking in with the same discounts that online shoppers took advantange of yesterday. Of course, the really good deals may be more limited in the shops, so online is still the place to pick up the best bargains. Plus you won’t have to fight through the crowds to get the best deals.
One question we have though, is if the sales are already in full force, what’s going to happen in January? Are the New Year Sales going to go even further, or will they just fade away?
