HMV prices slashed

by admin on December 24, 2008

HMV have got some great savings on DVDs and music. We’ve taken a look though the box sets section, so that we can stock up on older TV series in the sale, and have found some great prices. Some are ridiculously cheap! American Pie 1, 2 & 3 - £6.99, JackAss volume 1 - £3.99, Little Britain series 1, 2 & 3 - £7.99.

They also have a bunch of games across all formats on offer, which could be good to go with your shiny new 360/ps3/wii/ds/psp . Prices are down to £10 in some places…

Mothercare - £100 off pushchairs

by admin on December 24, 2008

Mothercare have got some great deals available, with (all preceeded by “up to“): £200 off nursery goods, £100 off pushcairs, 50% off car seats, maternity, clothing and toys and 20% off safety products.

The £200 off nursery furniture caught our eye, but they only have one furniture set in the offer, a rather trendy light oak set, but the £200 discount only kicks in when you buy the cot, wardrobe, dresser, under drawer and over cot changer all at once. So you basically have to spend £880 and get £200 back. Not too bad, but only useful to a limited market.

The pushchairs and car seat offers are much more useful, although the “up to” caveat is very evident, with many discounted by far less. The cheapest stroller, usually £34.99 is now £24.99, and the most expensive have been reduced from £400 to £350. We did find the “Urban Detour Quantum Travel System - Homeland” which has had the full £100 off: was £375, now £275.

If you have kids then it’s well worth having a look and stocking up on toys, clothes or whatever at the reduced prices.

Underwear Down! At La Senza!

by admin on December 24, 2008

La Senza have bucked the trend. They don’t have a small up to before the headline discount details, instead, they have a huge EVERYTHING 1/2 PRICE OR LESS. Big and bold. We like it. Although they then spoilt that with a (*Selected Styles Only) - ah well. Anyway, they at least provide a set of links directly to the offers on the home page, so you don’t have to browse looking for the deals.

For research purposes only, we have had a good long browse around the sales offers to confirm that yes, everything on the offer pages is half price, ranging from £3 boxer shorts for men, up to silk PJs now at £25 and lots in between. Well worth a look!

La Senza sale details are here.

(up to) 85% off at the BBC Shop

by admin on December 24, 2008

The BBC have piled in with a huge (up to) 85% discount on their wares - basically DVD, CDs, Books and other products related to programmes from the BBC - such as Doctor Who… OK, some of the prices are still slightly more than you might pay elsewhere, but there are bargains in there as well.

The best discount we have found so far is the Rock Profile DVD, which was £19.99 and is now £3. Rock Profile was that great show where Matt Lucas and David Walliams (of Little Britain fame) became famous rock and pop stars, and were then interviewed by Jamie Theakston. Hilarious stuff!

Magazines are up to 50% off subscriptions, so that could well save you plenty if you buy Top Gear or Focus or Gardeners’ World every month. Take a look at the magazine range, you might be amazed at the number of BBC published magazines there are now.

Visit the BBC Online Shop.

Halfords - what can we expect?

by admin on December 24, 2008

Halfords is an interesting case; they already have some great offers: 50% off sat nav, and bikes for instance, yet this is before the sale starts. As today is still a normnal trading day, you can place an order on the Halfords website to collect from your local shop before 3pm this afternoon.

With that in mind, we don’t expect the real offers to appear online before 3pm. But what else can they do? The current offers are pretty strong, so do they have enough wiggle room to reduce prices even more?

We’ll be checking back later today to see what they do - you can look now

Online Stores Busier Than Church

by admin on December 20, 2008

According to the online retail trade group IMRG, more people will shop for bargains on Christmas Day than attend a church service, with an estimated £104 million due to be spent. Last year, 4.4 million people spent £84 million on Christmas Day, but with additional growth this year, retailers are expecting more.

John Lewis has joined the retailers with Christmas Day sales this year, launching at 6pm on Christmas Eve, after realising that they missed out last year.

The Telegraph has the full story.
